Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants

Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants
  1. What is a “digital native” or digital student?
  2. What are 3 types of technology they use to communicate?
  3. How do they perceive school?
  4. What is a “digital immigrant?”
  5. In what ways are these two groups disconnected?

  1. This article was really interesting- especially when viewed in the context of rising ADHD or ADD children in education...perhaps they are just digital natives?

  4. I think Digial natives view information and sharing differently then immigrants. When a native says he is published he means that he put some form of expression out on the web for other people to comment on or add to. When an immigrant talks about being published they are talking about a process that culminates with a perfect product to share with the world (usually in print).
The way we share and produce information is different and we have to help natives be positive producers and consumers. We need to stop saying that kids don't need to do this at school and provide opportunities to use the new resources to help students master the content knowledge and skills that will help them be successful in a global economy and tomorrow's world.
My son was published when he was three? How many of you can say that?
